Dr. Christina Maglaras, Medical Director, Dr. Maglaras was born and raised in Rockland County, NY. She attended SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry for an undergraduate degree in biology and environmental science. She earned her DVM degree at Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After veterinary school, she completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, NJ. She then spent four years of additional training at the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital, for a specialty internship and residency in Emergency and Critical Care. She has worked as a board-certified critical care specialist at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, Garden State Veterinary Services in Iselin, NJ, as well as in Charlotte, NC. Just prior to coming to Greater Staten Island, she was acting as a private consultant in the tri-state area. Since January of 2023, she is now the head of the Emergency and Critical Care Department at Greater Staten Island Veterinary Services, as well as Medical Director of the hospital. Dr. Maglaras has a special interest in transfusion medicine, coagulopathies, shock, toxicities, and trauma. Dr. Maglaras is committed to showing compassionate care for all of her patients.
In her spare time, Dr. Maglaras enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons and her pets (Bailey an English Springer Spaniel, Lexi a Pit Bull, her cats Sassafras and Finley, and a California King Snake named Kaia). She also enjoys cooking, refinishing antique furniture, and she will gladly find any excuse to find a beach or a mountain to spend time exploring.
