Dennis Trafny, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology)
Dr. Trafny obtained his veterinary degree from Purdue University in 2007. He completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Animal Medical Center in New York City in 2008. Dr. Trafny continued his studies with a research fellowship in Cardiology at the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, followed by a three year residency in Cardiology. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology) in 2013.
Dr. Trafny has extensive experience treating pets with a variety of cardiovascular diseases, from common conditions to rare disorders. He works closely with our critical care team and other specialists to ensure your pet the most comprehensive care.
The Cardiology Department provides consultations for patients with symptoms of heart or respiratory disease such as:
- Coughing
- Breathing problems or shortness of breath
- Heart murmur
- Heart failure
- Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
- Weakness, fainting or collapse
- Congenital heart disease (birth disorders)
- Acquired heart disease
- Elevated systemic blood pressure (arterial hypertension)
- Elevated lung blood pressure (pulmonary hypertension)
- Infectious diseases (such as heartworm disease or bacterial heart infections)
The Cardiology Department provides a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for heart disease including:
- Angiography
- Contrast Echocardiography
- Holter Monitoring
- Cardiac event recording
- Pacemaker implantation and monitoring
- Management of acute and chronic heart failure
- Management of acute and chronic bradycardia or tachycardia (abnormal heart rhythms)
- Screening for hereditary, congenital and acquired heart disease
- Blood pressure management
- Diagnosis and management of thromboembolism (blood clots)
- Management of heartworm disease
